Prop work for 'Don't Come Upstairs'. Thanks to Jasmine Anguah and Ben Harris.

I was thrilled to be asked to come on board with 'Don't Come Upstairs'. I was tasked with building a number of full sized props, as well as a series of miniature sets which would be used to recreate scenes from the movie that had taken place primarily in 1980s and 90s Toronto. One of the more important builds was director Mike Lobell's childhood living room and the front door to his house. We started with a handfull of mostly pretty grainy family photos and a sketch by Mike.

From there I made plans and we set about recreating the room, but in a style that was both recognizable and true to life, with a hint of childish whimsy. This scene in the movie, after all, was meant to be Mike's memories, not a literal 1:1 recreation.

I was lucky to have the help of Ben Harris and Jasmine Anguah, who did excellent work meticulously crafting scale furniture for the set. These scene from the movie serves to underscore Mike's anxiety as a child that the police, or SWAT would bust down his door in the middle of the night.

One of the greatest compliments was when Mike relayed to me that his sister had seen photos of the completed miniature set and asked Mike where he had found these new photos from their childhood home. I was very satisfied with how this one turned out.
